Books Lately Fired

Hotel Honolulu, by Paul Theroux

I didn’t think I’d cast aside a Theroux story (his travel books are unsurpassable), but this novel is cobbed together by short vingnettes which lack pop, as well as cohesion. Too pat, too easy, too many one-line jokes as cheap seques between scenes, and the locals (Hawiians) are easy stereotype targets.

Seems that Theroux’s long-term stay in Hawaii as a bee keeper has him smoking some of the local puna buds, as well.
